Head West and beach in the National Seashore, you'll have your own private beach and shallow water to entertain the kids.

Early morning and just before sunset are the best time to see dolphins and the water is usually calmer during these times

If the Gulf is to rough for swimming, check out "Mom's Beach" which is appropriately named since it typically offers calm/protected swimming in the sound.
